Two deep quotes, even two deeper philosophers. It is amazing how some things are truly timeless: concepts, ideas, values, faith, Seinfeld episodes, Richard Pryor stand up, justice, baseball, equity, human rights. All these things will be around long after my body expires.
The ethic of reciprocity is one of these timeless things. If every one did adhere to their moral imperative to the world, we would be facing less severe problems, everyone would be working towards the same goal.
In a two party system both parties need to viable for your average Joe the plumber. As we stand today we have one party on our side when we need two. People think they joining a Republican party, when they are signing up to vote against their own self-interest. So we stand with less than half, call it 60/40. So 40% of our political power is working against us!
However our culture rewards shortcuts and ethical egoism, in the business world it's cool to cheat on taxes, in school it's cool to cheat. Is there a correlation when shows like The Real World, Big Brother make it seem cool to deceive for my own personal gain?
